Compared to its predecessor, the "fifth" Chevrolet Tahoe has noticeably changed in almost all aspects - the SUV has moved to a new platform, having received a stronger frame and fully independent suspensions, has become more attractive in appearance, has become larger in size, significantly adding in the interior space, has been "armed" with a diesel engine and acquired modern electronics.
The fifth generation "Tahoe", whose exterior is decorated in the current iteration of the Chevrolet corporate identity, looks really brutal and majestic, but at the same time attractive, harmonious and, surprisingly, not at all ponderous, even despite its gigantic size.
The monumental "physiognomy" of the car carries narrow headlights that form a single whole with LED "brackets" of the running lights, a huge radiator grill and a sculpted bumper, and its solid stern "flaunts" an impressive trunk lid, stylish vertical lights and a very simple bumper.
In profile, the SUV impresses with its scope and is distinguished by a truly "heroic physique" - a long hood, an almost horizontal roof "resting" in the rear on a darkened pillar, expressive sides and huge rounded-square wheel arches accommodating "rollers" with dimensions of 18 up to 22 inches.
It is a full-size SUV with corresponding external dimensions: its length extends to 5351 mm, its width is 2058 mm, and its height reaches 1927 mm. The distance between the wheelsets of the front and rear axles is 3071 mm for the five-door.
Interior
Inside, the fifth-generation Chevrolet Tahoe looks the same as outside: beautiful, modern and quite presentable - a weighty four-spoke multi-steering wheel with a "chubby" rim, a classic instrument cluster with as many as six analogue dials and a color board computer display (4.2 or 8 inches) between them , a strict center console with a protruding 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an abundance of buttons and controls responsible for controlling the "microclimate" and other minor functions. Inside the SUV, high-quality finishing materials prevail - high-quality plastics, genuine leather, etc.
By default, the car interior has a seven / eight-seat layout (depending on the sales market), and regardless of the version, ergonomically profiled chairs with wide-spaced side support rollers, huge adjustment ranges and heating are installed on the first row here, and on the third - a sofa, capable of accommodating up to three passengers. But the second row can be represented either by a full-fledged three-seater sofa with a folding armrest and the ability to move "back and forth" in the interval of 254 mm, or a pair of "captain's" seats with all the necessary elements of comfort and settings in several directions at once.
The trunk of a full-size SUV is characterized by the correct shape and impressive scope - even in its normal state (that is, with seven / eight riders on board), its volume is 722 liters.
The seats of the third and second rows fit into a completely flat area, increasing the capacity of the cargo compartment to 2058 and 3479 liters, respectively. The spare wheel at the five-door is suspended on the street, under the bottom.
Specifications
For the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, there are three engines to choose from, each equipped with a start / stop system:
- Gasoline versions of the SUV rely on V-shaped atmospheric "eights" with direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, 16-valve timing and a system for shutting off part of the cylinders at low loads:
- by default, the car is equipped with a 5.3-liter unit that generates 360 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 519 Nm of torque at 4100 rpm;
- The "top" variants are "armed" with a 6.2-liter engine, which develops 425 hp. at 5600 rpm and 623 Nm of peak thrust at 4100 rpm.
- An alternative to gasoline "aspirated" engines is a 3.0-liter Duramax inline six-cylinder diesel engine with a turbocharger, common rail injection and 24-valve timing, producing 281 hp. at 3750 rpm and 623 Nm of torque at 1500 rpm.
The standard full-size SUV is equipped with a 10-band hydromechanical "automatic" Hydra-Matic 10L80 with a push-button gear selector and rear-wheel drive transmission, and for an extra charge it relies on an all-wheel drive system with a multi-plate clutch that connects the front wheels and a reduction gear.
Design features
The fifth "release" of the Chevrolet Tahoe is built on the GMT-T1XX platform with a body frame structure, for a wide proportion of high-strength steel grades. The car is equipped with fully independent suspensions: a double-wishbone architecture is installed on the front axle, and a multi-link architecture on the rear (on each side there are three wishbones and one large longitudinal).
The standard SUV is equipped with passive shock absorbers, coil springs and anti-roll bars, but as an option, it can be equipped with either an adaptive Magnetic Ride Control chassis or an Air Ride Adaptive air suspension with a ride height adjustment in the range of 101 mm and body leveling depending on the load individually on each of the wheels.
The five-door has a rack-and-pinion steering gear with an active electric power steering. All wheels of the full-size SUV have ventilated disc brakes that work with ABS, EBD, BA and other assistive electronics.
Options and prices
In the United States, sales of the fifth-generation Chevrolet Tahoe will begin in mid-2020, and there the SUV will be offered in six equipment options to choose from: standard LS and LT, "sporty" RST, off-road Z71 and "premium" Premier and High Country. Prices have not yet been announced, but it is expected that the car in the "base" will ask for ~ 50 thousand dollars (~ 3.1 million rubles). The car will also appear on the Russian market, but the exact dates have not been announced.
The standard SUV package includes: ten airbags, full LED optics, ABS, EBD, ESP, 18-inch alloy wheels, zone climate control, a media center with a 10-inch screen, electric drive and heated mirrors, power windows for all doors, a high-quality audio system, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, start / stop system and other modern equipment.
