In 2015, another German novelty entered the world market - this time we are talking about the coupe-like crossover Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, which will have to impose a tough struggle on the Bavarian BMW X6, as well as raise the declining sales of the GLE-class (formerly M-class). The production of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is traditionally located in the United States (at the plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama).
Externally, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is expectedly similar to its main competitor in the face of the BMW X6, but nevertheless the branded radiator grille, the shape of the rear door and the optics will unmistakably distinguish one "German" from another. If you purchase the optional AMG Sport Design Package, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Cross Coupé immediately transforms into a stylish sportsman ready to win the hearts of German car fans.
In terms of dimensions, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is also close to the BMW X6: the length of the new product will be 4900 mm, of which 2915 mm are on the wheelbase, the width of the crossover will not exceed 2003 mm, and the height will be limited to 1731 mm.
The novelty from Mercedes received a classic 5-seater salon with an interior that is authentic Mercedes-Benz GLE. However, there are still some differences. For example, the GLE Coupe has a different steering wheel, more wood trim (in top trim levels) and a redesigned multimedia system.
Specifications. Unlike the BMW X6, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe has only three powerplant options:
- The only diesel unit received a 6-cylinder V-configuration with a displacement of 3.0 liters, capable of developing up to 258 hp. power and about 620 Nm of torque.
- The younger petrol unit also has 6 V-shaped cylinders with a displacement of 3.0 liters at its disposal, but its maximum output is 333 hp, and the torque does not exceed 480 Nm.
- The top gasoline engine is capable of 367 hp. power and 520 Nm of torque.
All three engines are aggregated only with a 9-speed "automatic" 9G-Tronic.
A little later they were joined by the "charged" Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe, which is equipped with an 8-cylinder 5.5-liter engine with a return of 570 hp.
Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe received a monocoque body made of high-strength steels with the addition of aluminum parts. The crossover's suspension is completely independent, with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link at the rear. Disc brakes are used on all wheels (ventilated in front), and the rack and pinion steering mechanism received an electric power steering with a variable gear ratio as an assistant.
As an option, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe can be equipped with an adaptive air suspension for all 4 wheels (the BMW X6 only has a rear air suspension), as well as supplemented with active anti-roll bars.
In the base, the GLE Coupe is equipped with a 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive system with a symmetric (torque is distributed between the axles in a 50/50 ratio) or asymmetric (50/60 in favor of the rear axle) center differential, depending on the configuration.
Options and prices. The most affordable modification of the coupe-like crossover, the 2016 GLE 350 d 4Matic, is estimated in the Russian market at 4,550,000 rubles (the same amount is asked for the GLE 400 4Matic).
The functionality of such a car combines nine airbags, leather upholstery, a dual-zone climate system, a rear view camera, all-LED optics, 20-inch rims, premium "music", lift start assistance and collision avoidance systems, as well as weight other equipment.
The "top" Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic cannot be bought for less than 5,550,000 rubles, and its main differences are in the presence of AMG accents.
